Many considers this like a boot-camp for would-be Catholic couples. Though it is not made mandatory by the Catholic Church, many Catholic Priest will give no qualms in sending prospective couples to these weekend sessions.
We went for our EE weekend from the 14-16 December. It was held in the Marriage Encounter House in a very ulu end of Singapore, somewhere in Pungol. There were 30 couples participating and the presenting team was made up of 2 presenting couples and a priest. So for the next 2 and the half days, we underwent series of talks and sharing sessions on marriage and family life experience.
What did we gain from the weekend? Well, being in the sessions, we spent a lot of quality time together, away from the usual distractions, talking about issues close to the heart and stuff that are essential to a lifelong commitment. The presenters (Patrick & Linette, Irwin & Daphne) were open and honest, and gave us great insight about married life through their sharings. The priest (Fr.Frans) was always warm and full of humour. On the side, the food was good (I think we put on weight there) and the accomodation (2 or 4 per room) was pretty basic but comfortable.
